Handwoven Pure natural dyed coarse cotton ganjam bomkai – tribal weaving of Ganjam District, Orissa This green saree comes with a maroon border along with the phoda kumbha temple motifs. The pallu starts with the signature big bird motif . Different flora and fauna like tortoise, fish, flowers, bird motifs are woven in extra weft technique along the big pallu.
Bomkai has originated from a small village called Bomkai in Ganjam district, South Odisha (woven mainly on coarse cotton). The different types of motifs used are Kanthiphula, atasi flower, bitter gourd flower, fly, birds, peacock, fish lotus, damru etc in geometrical forms. Some of the border motifs used are rows of kumbha.
